Tips Going to Joyland Jakarta

December 15, 2023

I've noticed that a lot of foreigners come to Joyland, so I'm going to give some tips in this post.

For those who are not familiar, Joyland is an annual 3-day music festival held in Jakarta & Bali. Not only music, but attendees can also enjoy various activities like workshops and craft-making. Since this is a family festival, children under 12 are free to enter.

I have gone to both in Jakarta and Bali. But now, I'm just going to explain the one in Jakarta.

Ticket

To buy, go to https://joylandfest.com/ and click the "get tickets" option. They usually sell the tickets months before. I bought it in April, while the festival is in November. There are 3 pre-sales, I got the second pre-sale which cost IDR 830.600 or around USD 52, normal price is around USD 90.

Venue

The venue is at Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Baseball Stadium which is located in Central Jakarta so the way to get there is fairly easy.

Transportation

There are plenty of options for going to the venue, you can always take a taxi of course but there are other cheaper ones:

  1. Commuter Line / KRL: This might be the hardest way since there are a lot of stations and it might be confusing, but if you're willing to go for a little bit of adventure then this is perfect. Get off at the Palmerah Station / Stasiun Palmerah. I usually take online motorbike transportation afterward. You need a card for this which can be purchased at the station or a pre-paid card available at minimarkets such as Indomaret or Alfamart.
  2. MRT: Get off at the Senayan Station / Stasiun Senayan and you can walk to Gate 2 / Gerbang 2. The walk will take about 15 minutes. MRT is slightly more expensive than Commuter Line.
  3. Online motorbike transportation: If you are close to the venue, you can take Grab Bike, GoJek, Maxim, etc. Often Maxim is cheaper than the former two mentioned, but you have to pay with cash. This is also the perfect transport because the way to the venue has a pretty severe traffic jam.

Accommodation

As I said earlier, the venue is located in the heart of Jakarta so hotels are very easy to find. The closest one is Fairmont (around USD 230). But you can always find cheaper ones around it via Red Doorz, Ticket.com, Traveloka, or your preferred travel apps. I have never stayed in Senayan area so I don't have any personal recommendations, sorry!

General knowledge

This is a family-friendly music festival, so there are certain rules that the attendees must obey.

  • Smoking and drinking in general areas are PROHIBITED. There are designated spaces for those who want to smoke and drink. Yes, vaping is included.
  • Free water if you bring a water bottle. Please do bring them. I saw people use their hands to drink from the water station, it's just gross and uncivilized.
  • Since the festival is held in November which is a rainy season, bring small umbrella, raincoat, and shoe protector. Better yet, wear sandals. I learned that the hard way.
  • You can also bring a picnic mat and a foldable chair.
  • To buy food and drinks the tenants use QRIS or cash.

I think that's about it. You can always contact me if you have inquiries or drop a comment below!
